This is maybe the most detailed painting I’ve done so far and worked on it for 2 months solid completing it in the summer of 2007. The ocean image is painted from a photograph of a beach in Trinidad CA. Floating above are 3 whales all surrounded by their own “pod” shaped halo. Each bird also has a “pod halo” glazed around them resembling a subtle aura or shield. The idea is to explore the strength and vulnerability of both the enormous whales and the tiny birds. By floating the whales out of water it places them directly in view instead of being hidden in the dark ocean. It’s harder to pretend nothing is out there when it’s staring you in the face. The hearts in the center of the cherry blossoms are meant to place a human element in the landscape and also to reference the idea of love, consideration and respect.

“Pit bulls in Vegas” was a commission for a rock climber/pit bull owner from southern California. This painting is 4ftx2ft completed in 2008.

I’m working on a series of animals enjoying a variety of human influences, foods, poisons, delicacies, etc. This bird, tiny in real life has mutated on a diet of espresso and is now a bit more menacing in size and faster than normal.

This is another painting in the series of animals taking on human characteristics by choice or default because so much is thrown at them constantly.

This is a reflection on urban decay and renewal, interactions between human choices and development within existing habitats of other species.

This was a commission for someone from Zwin Belgium where a large marsh and bird preserve is located. These white storks migrate there annually from Africa and are a species threatened by pesticides and pollution.

These are the same white storks. These birds are huge, as big as 4-5ft with a massive wing span. The painting is small, but it’s one of my favorites because of the silhouettes and color scheme.
