science illustrations

This series of illustrations was done using an under painting of gouache then rendered with colored pencils for a company (Eques inc.) who wholesales imagery to zoos and aquariums nationwide in the form of tee-shirts, mugs, etc. It was my first illustration job (2008) and though I was a very underpaid “for hire” artist, it was good experience in many ways..

This albino alligator is available on random museum paraphernalia at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park S.F. (There is also a baby white gator on a magnet and kid’s tees). I have my own mug and tee shirt as part of the “benefit” package of being an illustrator for hire. I can only afford to put water in my mug. ha.
This was my first drawing for the company, a charming alligator I believe made it to the bronx zoo on tee shirts and mugs and prints. I think he is a happy gator.
Strange and wonderful, they had a hard winter this year due to cold weather and strange environmental changes. (oil spills and chemical dispersant in the gulf maybe?)
Dang, this one looks mean! Crocodiles are less dangerous than hippos so don’t forget that when in Africa.

Japanese spider crab!! whoa. freaky.
